February 2021

Walsingham Abbey Grounds will be open for local exercise from Friday 26th February until Sunday 7th March inclusive.

We will then review our opening for the period from Monday 8th March up until Easter.

Open 11am-4pm at the High Street Gate.

Walsingham Abbey Grounds is permitted to be open as a public open space, a category which includes heritage gardens.

Please remember that it is essential to continue to comply with social distancing rules, use the sanitiser provided and pay by card.

Government guidelines are:

You should minimise time spent outside your home, but you can leave your home to exercise. This should be limited to once per day, and you should not travel outside your local area.

You can exercise in a public outdoor place:

  • by yourself
  • with the people you live with
  • with your support bubble (if you are legally permitted to form one)
  • in a childcare bubble where providing childcare
  • or, when on your own, with 1 person from another household

January 2021

Just they start to appear, we are sad to say that we will not be opening for snowdrops as planned, which was to be from 25th January.
We are very much hoping that it will be possible to open later in the season.
Meanwhile here’s a little clump of galanthus nivalis in a sunny spot earlier this week.

Visiting us in the new lockdown

We are pleased to say that the Abbey Grounds can open under the new lockdown rules.

From Wednesday 4th November the Abbey Grounds will be open four days a week, until 21st November.

Our opening hours will be Wednesday to Saturday 11am-4pm. We will be closed from Sunday to Tuesday.

You may visit as one household or support bubble.

An individual may visit with one person from another household, plus babies and children under school age.

As indoor spaces must remain closed we cannot open the crypt or museum.

You are welcome to bring a picnic.

Dogs are welcome too (on leads please).

Rule of Six

In line with government guidance, we are permitted to continue to admit more people in total but no one should visit us in a group of more than six people.

Groups of more than six people cannot be admitted unless you all live together (or are in the same support bubble)

You should avoid social interaction with anyone outside the group you are with, even if you see other people you know.

Reopening Saturday 4th July

We are pleased to be able to reopen on Saturday 4th July. We will be open from that date with our usual hours for this time of year, which are daily, 11am-4pm.

Admission will be at the High Street Gate. Card payments only please. See our visitor information for details.

COVID-19 update

In common with other Historic Houses parks, gardens and houses, we have temporarily closed following government advice and with regard to the importance of ensuring the health and safety of both visitors and our staff.

We look forward to being open again and welcoming visitors to Walsingham Abbey.

Privately owned gardens and open air spaces are now able to be open to visitors, if the right precautions are in place. While the grounds themselves are perfect for social distancing, we need to modify our admission arrangements.

We are currently reviewing our procedures and hoping to make this possible soon.
